The Danish Register of Underground Cable Owners (LER)

Society depends on a steady supply of electricity, gas, oil, television and internet, district heating, water supply and sewers. The Register of Underground Cable Owners (LER) (Ledningsejerregistret.dk) provides information that keeps contractors from digging into and damaging important utility cables.

Excavation accidents during digs are expensive for the contractor, but are also a great nuisance to citizens and businesses that need water in their taps and electricity in their sockets. The purpose of The Register of Underground Cable Owners is to provide the excavator with information about the location of these important cables and thereby reduce the occurrence of excavation accidents.

The Register of Underground Cable Owners is also the place where excavators find information on who owns utility cables underground. Thus, the LER is the point of contact for those who own the cables and those who wish to excavate or search for information on cables.

The Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure manages LER and is the authority for the law on the register, which provides the framework for the LER. Read more about the law concerning LER.

Development towards faster exchange of information

The Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure operate and develops LER through dialogue with users and external system suppliers. The Agency continuously develops the system with an increasing level of automation, which means that more users now receive information on underground cables within a couple of hours.

The Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure is responsible for:

  • The supervision of underground cable owners' registration of their areas of interest in LER in accordance with the law.
  • Ensuring that LER as an IT system is working as it should.
  • Further developing the register to fit users' needs.
